What makes a great leader? What traits and characteristics make him or her an effective leader?

As my course progresses, I'm sure this list will change but as for now, I think this is a solid foundation on leadership.
What makes a great leader? What traits and characteristics make him or her an effective leader?
Here's my starting points:
a leader ...
- is confident but humble
- is honest with his/her team
- understands and accepts cultural differences and works toward bridging those differences
- pushes his/her team to take risks and supports them if they fail
- holds his/her team accountable and develops a collective sense of responsibility in his/her team
- is a teacher and invests time and energy to develop his team
- is not afraid to address the tough issues and provide a tough solution
- inspires his/her
- adapts to changes and embraces it
- embraces emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, social skill)
