That is the exact question I've been asking myself this whole week.
Why?
This week I started my master's program in predictive analytics at Northwestern. It's an online program that focuses on big data.
I decided to apply to this program around a year ago when I found myself getting complacent at work. I'm currently in the field of Human Resources also known as HR or perhaps you know them as the "corporate police officers" at your company :)
I like to joke about this with my friends and family and when I actually try to explain what I do, I get interesting reactions. After I graduated from college (UCLA - go, Bruins!), I started in HR as a HRIS Data Coordinator at Red Bull (yes, the energy drink company and yes, it was pretty awesome). However, no, I did not chase around employees and tell them that they were doing things illegally and no, I did not participate in firing people either. My role was totally different.
If IT and HR had a baby, that would be HRIS. My role was focused on data in the HRIS which was our system of record for everything and anything people related.
... I'm not finished and I have more to explain, but I want to preface that this blog is mainly for myself, especially so I can keep things in focus as I go on this journey through my master's program. My goal in this program is to see how I can use big data and predictive analytics in HR.
